Ok, need a little comfort food, something simple easy and should be cheap?
Please keep in mind you can inter change the ingredients, most of this you can get at home, I will choose to use a bit more unique than most, but we have our own taste.
So First off the ingreidents.
3 White Onions
3 Spanish Onions
HP Steak Sauce
3 Containers of Beef Stock/Broth
Some Gouda Cheese
A fancy dancy loaf of bread
Olive Oil (You can use coconut oil too)
Coat your slow cooker a bit of olive oil, not too much just a bit.
Cut up your onions nice and thin.
Mince Up your garlic.
Put the garlic and onion in the slow cooker and put some beef broth until you can see a bit poking in the middle of the onion mix.
Set the slow cooker on low for 8 hours.
Start adding in beef broth and keep adding as the broth lowers.
Put in your spices and a little bit of HP Steak Sauce (You can change this to a bbq sauce, no name often has better ingredients.)
Now you want to stir this every few hours (Don’t do it more than that because the slow cooker will loose its heat.)
When the 8 hours is up, its done, give it a good stir to mix everything evenely.
Now you can put some into a soup bowl, and your going to cut a slice of the fancy bread and dip it in so its in the soup. (This is to replace the crackers.)
Then grade some gouda cheese on top (Now I choose gouda because I prefer a better quality cheese, any cheese will work, Parmesan is the preferred one any ways, but make this yours.
Throw it in the oven, or microwave, oven is better at 350 for 5 minutes, then eat.
You can garnish with parsley if you like.
A lot of this can be interchanged with what ingredients you have at home, not at all a hard soup to make, but when choosing ingredients always best to make sure you know what your adding.
For instance, most stock has a lot of sodium in it, but you can find ones that have less.
Spice really isn’t that important, you can make it hotter, you can add differently, my wife being Dutch likes adding KIP spice.
I hope you like it, and if you’ve never made it, well its a good soup to impress people.
Enjoy your French Onion Soup!
