This is an East Coast Recipe, it originated in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada, and is an excellent hang over or just pure comfort food.
This is going to take a lot of time to make and make properly, and there are different things that you can put in it.
I want to make clear this is not necessarily the healthiest thing your going to make, but you can make it healthier.
Somethings to keep in mind, your going to want a bread pan, and a container (Like an old yogurt container.
So lets start with Donair Meat.
So here is a list of ingredients.
A pound of extra lean beef.
A table spoon of salt.
a lot of ground pepper (To your taste.).
A Smidge Of Peperika, You don’t need a lot.
Now for the meat, traditionally, it usually calls for Medium, but you don’t need to, I would use extra lean, or even half extra lean and some ground lamb.
Spices are not so much important for how much you put in, just take it easy and add to your taste.
Grease the bread pan, preferably with at least Olive Oil.
Put everything in the bread pan, and kneed it, pound it, mix it, for a good 10-15 minutes, if you have a kitchen hammer and just pound it.
It shouldn’t have the texture of ground beef, it should look like a meat bread.
Don’t be shy, put on some gloves, get a kitchen hammer, and just vent all your aggression out and pound it into bread.
Pre heat the over for 350, and then bake for 1 hour.
Now for Donair Sauce.
2 Cups Of Sweetend Evaporated Milk.
A table spoon of Steieva (You can use real sugar if you want, but its not that important.)
2 table spoons of Garlic Powder.
Half cup of Vinegar.
Ok, in the empty Yogurt container mix the milk, steieva and garlic powder and mix well.
After that slowly put in the vinegar and stir 4 times slowly then stop.
Cover it and put it in the fridge for at least 1 to 4 hours to set.
Dice up a few tomatoes.
Dice Up A Few Onions.
Grade some cheese, preferably a good quality cheese.
Take your pita warm it up (maybe with some butter).
Slice up some meat, there is no wrong way to do this, but the thinner the better.
Heat the meat up a bit, you can microwave it, or fry it for a few minutes, doesn’t need long.
Put the meat into the pita.
Top with tomato and onion.
Place some cheese on top of the mix.
The cover liberally with the sauce.
Wrap your peta then your good to go.
Its a great dish, just remember that you can’t over do this, or shouldn’t, it isn’t the healthiest thing in the world, but it is quite tasty.
