Popcorn chicken can be a guilty pleasure,.. but wait does it have to be?
We don’t use the Air fryer a whole lot, but this is one worth using it for, after all, yes you can deep fry all you want, but its not really that healthy, and to be honest it is much better to enjoy something if you know that it is good for you.
So lets give it a try.
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cut into 1-inch pieces
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon black pepper
¼ teaspoon ground mustard
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
⅛ teaspoon ground thyme
⅛ teaspoon dried basil
⅛ teaspoon dried oregano
⅛ teaspoon dried sage
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 serving cooking spray
Add your chicken into a bowl making sure that they are the size you want, this is very important, other wise they won’t be popcorn chicken.
Combine all spices into a small bowl, save a tablespoon of the mix for later, then combine the chicken, toss and mix it well so that its completely coated over the chicken evenly.
Combine your cornstarch and the rest of your spice mix into a re-seal-able bag, mix it up, and then add your chicken in the bag, I would take a small strainer and strain the chicken back out to get rid of the excess and put it back into the bag, put it in the fridge to sit over night, this will give the cornstarch time to absorb, and the spices to breath into the chicken properly.
Preheat air fryer to 390 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Oil the pan for your air fryer, trust me on this, now place the chicken in the bin, making sure that nothing over laps. you can mist or put a bit of oil over the chicken. (Now you may have to make multiple goes at this to finish all the chicken.
Cook for about 4 minutes, then shake the basket a bit, then give it a bit more oil so there are no powdery or dry areas, cook for another 4 to 5 minutes, just be sure there are no pink areas, if there are put it back in for a few more minutes, then serve immediately.
